Bishop & Miller Celebrate Successful Launch of Oriental Art & Antique Sale 25 May 2018 News
We held our first Oriental Art & Antique Sale yesterday (Thursday 24 May) in our Stowmarket sale rooms and we surpassed expectations with the total of all auction items reaching £70,000. There’s always a sense of trepidation when we launch a new specialist Sale but we were proud of the variety of lots we had on offer, and I’m thrilled to see our customers did too. It’s great to be putting Suffolk more on the map for specialist Sales such as these, and we plan to keep extending our offering.
Here’s a taste of some of our top lots from the Sale:
1) Edo period ivory Netsuke (Lot 267) which sold for £3,800 This Edo period ivory Netsuke is of Gama-Senmin smiling as he stands on one foot and is a really charming piece and highly collectible piece. Netsuke are produced and appreciated by carvers and collectors from around the world.
2) Chinese porcelain ginger jar (Lot 373) which fetched £2,600The large Chinese porcelain ginger jar which is possibly from the Kangxi period, was in fine condition and highly sought-after on the day of the Sale.
3) A 19th Century Jade carved monkey (Lot 348) which sold for £2,600Delightful19th Century Jade carved as a monkey with a smaller monkey on its back.
4) The Edo period carved box wood tiger (Lot 249) went for £2,600The Edo period carved box wood tiger in seated position was in fine condition and in high demand on auction day.
5) Japanese Ivory Fan (Lot 31) which sold for £2,000The early 20th century Japanese ivory was beautifully decorated with pheasants in a landscape and birds and insects.
