Eastern Delights: Asian Art & Antiques Sale Highlights 1 Jan 2019 News
Bishop & Miller, the region’s leading independent auction and valuation firm in the East of England, recently held its specialist Asian Art & Antiques in Stowmarket with the total of all auction items reaching over £68,000. A booming market in the Auction trade, sales were up almost 20% from last year’s Asian Sale.
Highlights included in this specialist auction were the sale of a rare 19th Century Indian portrait depicting a Maharaja with scribes and attendants discussing a document (circa 1860) which fetched £4,200. This interesting piece sold to a collector in London. As well as an impressive Japanese Edo period black lacquer and gilt decorated cabinet (Lot 176) sold for £3,600 to a collector in California, USA. This special piece was part of the larger Ballardie Collection, a specialist collection which came from a collector in London.
Lot 99, a Chinese porcelain ginger jar, possibly from the Kangxi period, sold for £1,200 and another stand out item included the beautiful Chinese five fold lacquered and gilt heightened floor screen (Lot 172) with each panel decorated with varying designs to include dragons and character marks which fetched £2,000 from a specialist collector from London.
