Auctioneer’s Top Picks: Military & Medals Auction 17 Apr 2019 News
Bishop & Miller, the international auction house based in Suffolk, is holding its specialist Military & Medals Auction on Saturday 27th April 2019 from 10am at its Stowmarket Salerooms. The Sale’s catalogue is now online and can be viewed here.
This specialist Sale has a large number of interesting pieces including Lot 597, which is an intriguing visitors book relating to the German Third Reich. This rare book which is in good condition was obtained by a British soldier at the end of World War Two and brought back to the UK. This Lot has estimate of £500-£700.
Oliver Miller, managing director of Bishop & Miller says: “Amongst our Military Sale there are some incredibly interesting lots and the provenance of Lot 597 really caught my attention. Included in this unique book are around one hundred signature’s signed in the first six pages of the book including Alfred Rosenberg who was a high ranking Nazi politician and at one time editor of the “Voelkischer Beobachter”, the official Nazi newspaper. Rosenberg was also the leader of the Foreign Policy Office of the N.S.D.A.P and Reich’s Minister for the occupied Eastern Territories. He was sentenced to death at Nuremberg in 1946 and was executed for war crimes and crimes against humanity. World War II militaria and memorabilia is increasing in its demand and we expect a lot of interest in a number of our items from UK bidders and internationally.”
Other items to look out for in Bishop & Miller’s Military Sale include Lot 125 which is an impressive Norfolk Regiment D.C.M. M.M. Mon’s Trio First World War Medal Group. The estimate of these collectibles are £1,000-£1,500. There are also a number of antique muskets and vintage rifles, including Lot 31 which is 1810 dated Brown Bess flint lock musket (East India Company) which has an estimate of £800-£1,000.
