Military & Coins Specialist Sales Offer Top Lots to Keen Collectors 10 Jul 2019 News

It’s been a busy start to October for Bishop & Miller, the region’s leading independent and international auction house and valuation firm, as it held its Coins, Cigarette Cards, Stamps Postcards Auction on Friday 4th October and Militaria Auction on Saturday 5th October, at its Stowmarket Salesroom. Both Auctions were packed full of interesting, rare and desirable items and we’ve compiled a few of the highlights which sold to competitive bidders all over the world! Highlights from the Military, Medals & Maritime Auction October Sale, include: – Victorian 2nd Afghan War pair of medals (Lot 4) which sold for £1,400 to a keen collector- Second World War Royal Air Force Air Gunner grouping of three medals (Lot 75) which sold to a bidder in for £420. – A Fine Joseph Egg Flintlock double over and under flintlock pistol, circa 1790-1800 (Lot 191) which sold for £3,700. – Fine cased pair of French percussion duelling pistols (Lot 207) which sold for £3,000 to a collector. – A World War Two first pattern Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife (Lot 475) which sold for £1,800 to a buyer. 
– A rare late 18th Century/Early 19th Century British bicorne hat to a Field Grade officer of Light Dragoons (Lot 497) which sold for £2,200 to a collector. 
Some of the top lots that caught collectors’ eyes in the specialist Coins Sale included a Cased Sovereign set which included Victoria 1893, Edward VII 1907, George V 1912, Elizabeth II 1968 and Elizabeth II 2010, which sold for £1,150. A George III Guinea from 1788 (Lot 58) sold for £500 and The Royal Mint, The 2011 UK Mary Rose Gold Proof Coin (Lot 480) sold to a collector for £850.
