Music Sale Hits All The Right Notes 11 Nov 2019 Auctions News

Bishop & Miller held two specialist Auctions this weekend, showcasing a number of unusual and desirable items. One of the weekend’s highlights included Lot 416, a stunning full size “Degani Giulio di Eugenio” Violin which fetched £3,840. 

Bishop & Miller’s Toys, Comics, Advertising & Posters Auction which took place on Friday 8th November kicked off the weekend of Sales at its Stowmarket Salesrooms and impressed collectors with highlights including Lot 546, a Spratt’e enamel advertising sign: “All dogs love Spratt’s Bonio (reg’d) the tasty bone shaped biscuit!” This star lot sold for £2,040. Another top-selling lot included Lot 523, an Air France poster depicting Paris’ Eiffel Tower which fetched £480. 

Bishop & Miller’s hotly anticipated Music & Memorabilia Auction which look place on Saturday 9th November did not disappoint with an array of records, instruments and collectibles on sale. Amongst these items included a number of exceptional instruments, Oliver Miller, managing director explains: “It’s an exciting time for our Music Sales and especially for our musical instruments. We have seen a large increase in the demand for antique instruments – the craft and workmanship is something very appealing to keen collectors and many items we sell are also in perfect working order too!”
Oliver continues: “As well as the collectible “Degani Giulio di Eugenio” violin (Lot 416) which was one of our star lots, we also sold a Collin-Mezin full size Violin (circa 1936) which given its exceptional condition fetched £3,480. Other top selling lots included the quirky Garrard 301 turntable mounted on a wooden plinth base which has great character. This sold for £1,440.”Another interesting piece of popular culture memorabilia which was sold on behalf of Zest, part of the St Elizabeth Hospice charity, was a signed Kate Moss mannequin which was sold with two photographs showing Kate Moss signing the mannequin. The piece was sold on behalf of the charity Zest and raised £408. 
Other top lots in the Music & Memorabilia Auction were the 1974 Fender Stratocaster in natural finish which was made in the USA and sold for £1,140. There was also a pair of the Quad II amplifiers which fetched £1,000. A set of bagpipes with ebonised and ivory pipes sold for £960.
