Selling Guide

Selling at auction with Bishop & Miller

At Bishop & Miller we want to ensure your experience buying at auction is as enjoyable as possible. There are a variety of ways that you can participate in our auctions. Simply register for the auction you are interested in online or in person and then choose your preferred bidding method.

Free valuation of objects

We offer a free valuation service for any item brought into the Saleroom. An appointment with the appropriate specialist is advisable. If you have a number of items or a house contents, please contact us and ask for one of our Valuers to visit your home.

The Valuation Process

The first stage is to contact the relevant department at Bishop & Miller to arrange a valuation of your items.  We have a number of options available for your convenience:

If you would prefer to speak to us directly, please call us on: +44 (0)1449 673088 or email: enquiries@bm-auctions.co.uk

The reserve price

We usually recommend that your goods are sold at the auctioneers’s discretion, which gives us a 10% leeway on the lower estimate printed in the catalogue. Alternatively we are happy to agree a fixed reserve price below which we will not sell.

Before the auction

You will receive notification of the lot numbers of your property and a complimentary illustrated catalogue (please note there is no catalogue produced for the Mr Bishop Afternoon Auction, this is produced online only), usually about two weeks before the sale. You are of course welcome to come to the view or attend the auction if you wish.

Settlement

Sale results are sent out within 48 hours of the auction and settlement is usually made four weeks after the sale, subject to normal business conditions.

Charges

Our vendor’s commission is charged per lot.

The commission will be 17% + VAT, which includes the photography and the insurance of the item.

There is a Lotting Fee charge of £7.50 (+VAT) per lot for the Fine Sales, and £3 (+VAT) per lot other auctions.
