We are delighted to be offering selected items from the personal collection of David Stockings. David was brought up in artistic surroundings; both his parents Margaret and Charles Stockings had a deep interest in art and were avid collectors. Charles Stanley Stockings (1929-2017) had a varied career, born in Bethnal Green, he left school at an early age becoming a plumber’s apprentice, before joining the army and serving in the parachute regiment and later becoming an insurance broker. A self-taught artist, throughout his life Charles created a broad variety of artwork, working in various mediums and forms, with latterly his work becoming more widely appreciated.

The sale not only includes a small selection of works by Charles Stanley Stockings, but also modern design pieces and studio pottery that David has collected over the years. Notably, also being offered as part of the collection is an interesting selection of mixed media works by the acclaimed artist Syed Saleem Arif Quadri (British, 1949), who was closely associated with his parents Margaret and Charles who became his patron. Two of the Quadri works in the sale have personal dedications from the artist to the Stockings.
