Bishop & Miller held an exclusive auction selling over 300 personal which belonged to Ed Sheeran, raising £53,000 for St Elizabeth Hospice’s new brand Zest. Top lots in the Sale included a custom-made Martin & Co guitar which sold for over £10,000. All the raised money will help young people in the region living with terminal or progressive illnesses.
The Ed Sheeran Collection was part of the Bishop & Miller specialist Music & Memorabilia Auction, which saw a very rare David Bowie 8” ‘Starman’ acetate fetch £6,000.
Highlights of The Ed Sheeran Collection Auction included the singer’s custom-made and played Martin & Co guitar which sold for a hammer price of £10,200 to the room-bidder Andy Austin from Diss, Norfolk. He said: “My heart was pounding, I just expected the numbers to keep going up. It’s lovely to know the guitar is going to stay local and so exciting to actually get something proper of his.”
Also, the singer’s pair of orange boxer shorts proved popular with fans of the star and they fetched £120 being sold to a buyer in the USA and Sheeran’s iconic Lego Head was sold for £850 to a UK bidder as well as Ed’s Hohner harmonica which fetched £400.
Oliver Miller, Managing Director of Bishop & Miller, says: “Auction day had a real buzz about it and it was amazing to see some 500 people from across the world bid online for the items, as well as almost 100 in the room on the day. This project has been really special to work on and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have raised so much for such a worthwhile and local cause.”
Oliver continues: “So many celebrities and musicians have the chance to help raise money like this but very few actually do – the Sheeran family have been so generous and it’s been a pleasure working with them.”
Other personal items that went under the hammer included numerous sets of the singer’s Lego sets, a cuddly toy, two pairs of the singer’s Nike trainers and a used and damaged drumstick. All the proceeds raised from the auction will go to support Zest, a new initiative created by St Elizabeth Hospice for the care of young adults in the region.
