First Ceramics Auction of 2020 a success! 1 Jul 2020 Auctions News

Tuesday 7 January saw the first of Bishop & Miller’s specialist auctions of 2020 take place in their salerooms in Stowmarket.

For what will be a busy year of specialist auctions for the Bishop & Miller team, it was the 20th Century Ceramics auction which was first on the bill for 2020. This auction was introduced in 2019 and is building its reputation very successfully within the industry and proved to be ever popular, attracting a room full of keen bidders from across the UK and some very keen online bidders from across the world for some attractive and unique ceramics lots.

The auction featured a number of lots of Royal Crown Derby, Royal Doulton and Meissen Porcelain to name but a few. One of the outstanding lots of Royal Crown Derby was lot 112 which was an Imari pattern part tea service, consisting of six cups and saucers, together with Royal Crown Derby plates and two serving dishes, this lovely lot fetched above its estimate at £120.

Lot 126 was another very successful lot in this auction. This lot, a Meissen porcelain bird, marked W153 to the base reached £150 and went to a successful online bidder.

Towards the end of the auction, were the star lots of the ceramics auction, attracting a number of people to try their hand at being the successful winning bidder. First up was lot 204 which was a Royal Worcester model of a Suffolk Stallion, designed by Doris Lindner circa 1969. This model was a limited edition of 182 of 500, had the printed factory mark in black and was mounted on an oval plinth base. There was keen interest in the auction room for this lot, plus the attraction online, however after numerous bids the final price realised was £380.

Two lots later was the second of the special Royal Worcester Limited edition models, this time it was the model was of a Hyperion. Again being a limited edition, number 443 of 500 and coming with a certificate and plinth base. This lot sold for £340 to a successful room bidder.

Oliver Miller, Managing Director and Auctioneer said: “It was great to kick start 2020 with our first auction. We were so pleased with how the Ceramics auction was received. Being so early in January; we had a room full of bidders and a strong online interest as well. We can’t wait until the next specialist auction which is our Asian Art on 12 January, its been a great start to the year for us.”
