Uncover your hidden treasures 30 Jan 2018 News

Bishop & Miller, one of the region’s leading independent Auctioneers and Valuers, is holding a series of free valuation events in the region starting in Sudbury at The Granary, Quay Lane, on Wednesday 31st January from 10am – 1pm.The valuation events will be all be hosted by expert and managing director of Bishop & Miller, Oliver Miller. He says: “These free events offer anyone the opportunity to bring along their antiques and collectables for a no-obligation valuation and I’ll be there sharing my knowledge of the extensive range of items. I enjoy the challenge of seeing an array of different items, so I welcome anyone who thinks they may have an object of interest.”

Previously at a regional valuation day a Dutch box, thought to be nothing but brass by its owner, turned out to be gold and sold later at auction for £51,000 plus commission. Last year’s valuation events and auctions also saw a fine cased pair of Mortimer percussion pistols which went under the hammer in the October and sold for £15,200 (including buyer’s premium). The number auctions at Bishop & Miller has risen from six to 24 each year reflecting the growing interest in antiques and this increased popularity has given way to more specialist auctions taking place at the auction house in Stowmarket. New specialist Sales this year include Toys, Posters, a Music and Memorabilia sale taking place on 10th March and an Oriental Art & Antiques sale on 24th May 2018. Its established Fine Jewellery & Watches, Fine Art & Antiques and Military & Coins sales are also included in its busy schedule. In addition to these specialist sales instead of auctions, Bishop & Miller hold its monthly Mr Bishop’s Sale, covering a range of other items, which takes place on the second Tuesday of every month.
