Teddy H Salad; Amuse Bouche at The Gallery in Glandford 31 Aug 2026 News Events Norfolk News Suffolk News

Teddy H Salad is a British artist whose work grew from a lifelong instinct for making, collecting and looking differently at the everyday. Born in East London in 1961, he worked for many years as a fishmonger before a serious illness in 2009 prompted a change of direction and it was during his rehabilitation, walks along the beach led him to begin collecting pieces of driftwood and other discarded objects.

Using driftwood, reclaimed materials and found objects, Teddy creates characterful, often humorous pieces shaped by memory, music, popular culture and everyday observation. His work has been exhibited widely since his first Brighton Festival show in 2017 and is held in collections in the UK and internationally.

In 2017 he was invited to exhibit them as part of Brighton Festival. Works sold, and what had begun almost accidentally developed into a new life as an artist. In 2024 he started working full-time as an artist. Since then Salad has exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally. Recent exhibitions have included the Outsider Art Fair in New York, Hastings Contemporary, the Affordable Art Fair in London, and Brighton and elsewhere in the UK.

Humour is central to his work, but beneath it sits a lifetime of observation. Music, popular culture, British eccentricity, the arts and subculture all find their way into pieces that can be funny, nostalgic, irreverent and occasionally rather strange.

Even the artist’s name has its roots in British comedy. Teddy Salad was inspired by a character from Monty Python’s Flying Circus — an appropriately absurd cultural reference for an artist whose work delights in unexpected connections and the peculiarities of everyday life.

So, we are delighted to be bringing his ‘Amuse Bouche‘ exhibition to our Gallery in Glandford, bringing together a curated collection of Teddy’s distinctive work. Built from driftwood, discarded materials and everyday fragments, the pieces are playful, irreverent and full of colour and character.
